Round 5 - East Freo Sharks

If you think footy season ended in September, you've been looking at the wrong ladder. The WA Wheelchair Football League is halfway through its 2026 season right now, on Sunday afternoons, on basketball courts around Perth, and East Fremantle have a team in it.
It's Aussie rules shrunk to fit a basketball court, and it's faster than that sounds. Five a side, two forwards, two defenders, one midfielder, goalposts at each end. A handball counts as a kick. An underarm throw counts as a handball. Everything else is footy as you know it, including the bit where someone takes a screamer and the whole bench loses it.
The league's been going since 2021, started by the WA All Abilities Football Association with the Eagles as a foundation partner, and it's now six clubs deep. Perth are the reigning premiers with two flags. The Sharks are still chasing their first, which, if you know anything about East Fremantle supporters, is the kind of thing they'd quite like to fix.
It's free to watch, it's indoors, and it's over in an afternoon. Bring a chair, bring a mate, bring someone who reckons they don't like footy.
